DTN COMMENTS:  A few deals have been reported sold in parts of Kansas at 
$248, about steady with last week's weighted average, and some dressed 
deals in parts of Nebraska have traded at $388, nearly $1 lower than the 
previous week's weighted average. A more significant trade volume will 
likely be delayed until later today or it may hold off until sometime 
Friday, possibly after the on feed report is released tomorrow afternoon. 

Today's slaughter totaled 104,000 head, 1,000 less than last week, and 
17,000 below a year ago. Live cattle futures close sharply lower on live 
contracts, off 167 to 345, while feeder issues ended the day mostly 
sharply lower, the lone exception is spot April which was modestly lower, 
off 42 to 462. Beef cutouts are expected to close higher with light to 
moderate box movement.
